Scholarships offered through the BK Foundation
There are two main types of scholarships available through the BK Foundation:
Endowed Scholarships
The Bishop Kelly Foundation manages several endowed scholarships which are cataloged below. Funding an endowed scholarship within the Bishop Kelly Foundation can create life-changing gifts for BK students in perpetuity. It is also a meaningful way to craft a legacy of helping students achieve their goals of obtaining a Bishop Kelly education. Scholarship awards from these funds are made annually to students who apply for tuition assistance through BK and meet the criteria established by donors.
Annually Funded Scholarships
Annually funded scholarships are provided through the generosity of five Foundation donor families who believe in the value of a Catholic education. These full, four year scholarships are available to incoming freshmen from the 8 area partner Catholic schools in the Treasure Valley. Nominees are chosen by parish and school personnel and the application process is managed by the Foundation each year beginning in February.
CURRENT ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS
GENERAL FUNDS
The scholarships in this category represent some of the Foundation’s largest endowed funds and are the most common scholarships for donations.
Angel Scholarship Fund
Fr. Dodgson
Fr. Riffle
Father Don Riffle was a strong proponent for Catholic education and Bishop Kelly High School. He was instrumental in developing the Bishop Kelly Foundation for the ongoing financial support of Bishop Kelly and its future students. Throughout his life, Father Riffle was tireless in his advocacy and belief in the high quality of Catholic education. Father Riffle passed away suddenly in January of 2013. It was his wish that, upon his death, a scholarship in his name be endowed to provide scholarships to students from parochial schools who might otherwise not be able to attend Bishop Kelly.
Fr. Russell
Fr. Wilson
On the occasion of his Golden Jubilee in June of 2004, the Bishop Kelly Foundation established the Father James R. Wilson Scholarship in his honor. Father Wilson established the Bishop Kelly Foundation in 1975, when he was principal of the high school, and was committed to its success on behalf of the school. Alumni, friends, students, parents and staff contributed, and continue to give, to this scholarship which will be used to provide financial assistance to those in need.

CAUSE SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Mike and Patty Fery Family Scholarship
- Students involved in athletics
This scholarship was established by Mike and Patty Fery, parents of three BK alumni. It is need-based, and intended to help students with learning disabilities and/or are involved in athletics who qualify for financial assistance. Selection is made with the input of the BK Student Supports Services personnel and knowledge of sports activities in which the student is involved.
Steve Gleason
Steve Gleason was an elite athlete (New Orleans Saints, 2000-2008) whose career was cut short when he was diagnosed with ALS. Shortly thereafter, he and his wife established a non-profit called Team Gleason, which raises funds to help find a cure for ALS and to help those affected by the disease. One of the members of this team was a long-time friend who had coached Steve at Gonzaga Prep, BK alum Dave Martin. Knowing that Steve valued Catholic education and was passionate about helping people with disabilities and their families, Dave established The Steve Gleason Scholarship at Bishop Kelly with funding from the Steve Gleason Initiative Foundation. This is a need-based scholarship with a secondary criteria of helping those whose lives have been financially affected by a disability affecting a member of their family.
Urquidi-West
- BK Student Support Services
This scholarship was established by Mike and Susan Urquidi, parents of BK alumni, upon the passing of Susan’s father. It is intended to help students with learning disabilities who qualify for financial assistance. Selection will be made with the input of the BK Student Supports Services personnel. The Urquidi-West family also established a separate endowed fund to provide additional financial resources to the BK Student Support Services department. Donations to either of these funds are gratefully accepted.
